Learning objectives

The expectation is that, at the end of the module, students will be able to:

1. Understand the impact of intra-family violence on the growth of sons and daughters who witness it;

2. Recognize the complexity of gender violence, whose multiple roots are to be found in psychological and relational elements, family and cultural influences;

3. Develop an ability to read and analyze the main epidemiological data available in Italy on gender violence so as to give the phenomenon a dimension;

4. Recognize the contribution that a correct medical-legal evaluation can offer to women who have suffered violence.

Prerequisites

No prerequisites are required.

Course unit content

I lesson
A maieutic workshop will be proposed based on a narrative text regarding the perception of domestic violence by sons and daughters who witness it. A summary of a study on the perception of family violence by boys and girls interviewed in judicial contexts will also be proposed.
The essential contents will be systematized through teacher's slides.

II lesson
The most recent national epidemiological data on gender violence as a whole will be analysed, with an in-depth look at gender violence in adolescence or among young people, and on the cultural and family factors that influence it.
An in-depth analysis will be offered on the contribution that a correct medico-legal evaluation can offer to the recognition of violence, and on the obstacles that are most frequently faced in this field.

Bibliography

A. Enrichens, F. Nori, V. Valenti, text in progress.
Further materials used during the lessons will be published in Elly on the page dedicated to teaching.

Teaching methods

The teaching methodology will include laboratory moments starting from narrative texts or short videos, integrated with the systematization of the contents emerged through the illustration of slides.
In the second meeting, which will take place online, a medical examiner will be present as an external guest.

Assessment methods and criteria

The examination will be unique and will focus on the topics covered in all modules. The verification will take place through a WRITTEN exam (multiple choice quiz) with n. 30 questions, which will cover all the topics faced during the lessons, seminars and contained in the bibliography, aimed at evaluating the study and learning of theoretical/practical notions.
The test lasts 1 hour.
Each question is worth 1 point, for a maximum total of 30 points. If the student scores 29 points, the grade assigned will be 30/30; if instead he scores 30 points, the grade will be 30 cum laude. In other cases, the number of points corresponds to the same mark out of thirty. The exam is considered passed if 18 or more points are scored.
The student must answer all the questions.
For Erasmus students and those with special needs the duration of the test will be 1 hour and 20 minutes.
