Learning objectives

The module, focused on the role of social services in cases of gender-based violence, will have the following objectives:
- early recognition and identification of intra-family violence situations, regardless of the type of service in which the operator works;
- support a welcoming interview of the woman victim of violence without prejudice, aimed at guiding her with respect to the paths of help and protection and at giving her all useful information;
- define the cases in which there is an obligation to report to the Judicial Authority and identify the information to be transmitted useful for legal proceedings;
- illustrate the parental assessment processes, with particular attention to the risk of secondary victimization of the woman victim of violence;
- provide elements for the organization and management of the delicate phase of protected meetings between the minor and the abusive parent;
- guide the listening of minors in situations of violence.

Course unit content

The Module consists of 2 lessons aimed at deepening the role of Social Services in situations of gender-based violence, intra-family abuse and witnessing violence.
Specific contents:
- The prevention and recognition of gender-based violence as a transversal phenomenon that affects all social services; physical, sexual, economic and psychological violence
- The reception of the woman victim of violence, listening, information, orientation
- Collaboration with the Anti-violence Centers and the Centers for the treatment of violent men
- Reporting to the Judicial Authority by the Social Workers; the relationship with the various Courts
- The assessment of parenting skills of mothers who are victims of violence, and the assessment of the recoverability of abusive fathers
- Conversation with violent men: gender stereotypes, patriarchal education and tradition, cycle of violence, intergenerational cycle of violence
- The organization and management of protected meetings between children and the abusive parent

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons with the aid of slides and presentation of concrete cases.

Assessment methods and criteria

The evaluation method of the objectives achieved will be unique and will focus on the topics covered in all modules. The verification will take place through a WRITTEN exam (multiple choice quiz) with n. 30 questions, which will cover all the topics covered during the lessons, seminars and contained in the bibliography, aimed at evaluating the study and learning of theoretical/practical notions.
The test lasts 1 hour.
Each question is worth 1 point, for a maximum total of 30 points. If the student scores 29 points, the grade assigned will be 30/30; if instead he scores 30 points, the grade will be 30 cum laude. In other cases, the number of points corresponds to the same mark out of thirty. The exam is considered passed if 18 or more points are scored.
The student must answer all questions.
For Erasmus students and those with special needs the duration of the test will be 1 hour and 20 minutes..
