Integrated course unit module: HEALTH AND CORPORATE ECONOMICS

Learning objectives

I) Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course the student will
know the essentials and the financing processes in the national and
regional health systems; he/she will also know the characteristics and the
main tools of offer and demand in a health system.
II) Competences: at the end of the course the student will be able to read
and comment the main information about a national and regional health
system; he/she will also be able to compare the Italian health system to
another Country’s. Furthermore he/she will be able to use the main
demand&offer tools.
III) Making judgements: at the end of the course the student will be able
to comment the efficiency and efficacy of a health system and to assess
offer&demand in a health system.
IV) Communication skills: at the end of the course the student will be able
to use specific terminology in the field of systemic evaluations and to
communicate properly with organizations’ and entities’ management.
V) Learning skills: through case studies analysis, the student will be able
understand in depth the process of analysis, measurement and
assessment of a health system.

Course unit content

The course aims to provide students with the tools for economic reading
of the health system, to understand the dynamics and rules of the
system with particular attention to the role of the health professions.
The methodological approach requires the active involvement of the
participants and learning from the application of teaching concepts.
The course will develop the following topics:
1) The essentials of health economics; Reading the healthcare system in
key economic; Offer and demand system.
2) The National Health system and regional health systems.
3) The tools on the demand side; 4) Financing health systems; health regional systems and healthcare organizations

Teaching methods

In hypothesis of the extension of the COVID-19 emergency, the course will be provided "on-line".

Lessons carried out through distance learning can be delivered in synchronous and / or asynchronous streaming and will be registered through the Microsoft Teams platform.
They will be made available through links inserted in the Elly platform that will remain active for a minimum of 7 days.
In hypothesis of suspension of the COVID-19 emergency, the course will be provided "live in classroom".

Assessment methods and criteria

In consideration of the extension of the COVID-19 emergency, the learning verification method will be online.
The exam will take place on the Elly platform, and will take the form of a test with 30 multiple choice questions.
More information can be found in the "Instructions for the on-line exam" always available on the Elly platform of the course.
Verification of learning may consider taking an ongoing test during the course which will be individually assessed out of thirty and which will contribute to the final result (as an arithmetic average).

Hoping for an improvement in the health situation, in case of return "in presence", the exams will take place in the following way:
For business administration and health economics, there is a written exam consisting of 3 open questions (evaluation up to 7.5 points for each question) and an exercise (evaluation up to 7.5 for the exercise).
