Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the basics of pharmacology to acquire a deep understanding of the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic interactions between drugs, foods and plant products.
Knowledge and understanding:
• To acquire basic knowledge related to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic interactions
• To know the pharmacological activity of drugs and plant products and the related mechanisms of action
• To know the mechanisms underlying the main interactions between drugs, foods and plant products
• To acquire the ability to use the specific language of the discipline
Applied knowledge and understanding:
• To apply the knowledge of the main interactions between drugs, foods and plant products to define how they can be used for health
Autonomy of judgment:
• To know how to predict, on the basis of the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of a drug, the potential interactions with food or plant products.
Communication skills
• Possess the ability to synthesize information and communicate it effectively to expert and non-expert interlocutors.
Learning skills
• To develop methodologies that allow to study in a highly autonomous way
• Ability to update by consulting scientific databases
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of Pharmacology
Course unit content
The first part of the course concerns the principles that regulate the interactions between drugs, both from the point of view of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The second part deals specifically with the interactions between certain classes of drugs, foods and plant products.

Teaching methods
The teaching is carried out through frontal lessons. If the pandemic emergency should persist, the lessons, as far as possible, will be held in the classroom in the presence of a contingent number of students but will also be accessible remotely in synchronous way (streaming on the Teams platform)
The slides and video recordings used to support the lessons, considered an integral part of the teaching material, will be uploaded on a weekly basis on the Elly platform.
Assessment methods and criteria
The verification of the achievement of the objectives set by the course takes place through AN ORAL EXAMINATION. There would be the possibility to administer a preliminary test with (closed answer) for the access to the oral exam.
If necessary to take the exams remotely, the oral question will be conducted using the Teams platform.
The result is communicated immediately at the end of the test.
Rating scale: 0-30
Weights and evaluation criteria:
1) Acquired knowledge (up to 15/30);
2) Ability to apply the knowledge acquired and to make links between the topics covered (up to 10/30);
3) Presentation capacity through the use of the specific language of the discipline (up to 5/30).
