Learning objectives

• Knowledge and understanding
Students will develop knowledge and comprehension competence in the field of film and audiovisual studies, thanks to the use of different sources (handbooks, books, audiovisual and multimedia materials) regarding foundation topics and advanced research in the field of film and audiovisual studies.
• Applying knowledge and understanding
Students will be able to apply knowledge and comprehension skills useful for an initial training in film and audiovisual studies. In particular, students will develop skills needed both to create and support argumentation and to solve problems in the field of film and audiovisual studies.
• Making judgements
Students will be able to collect and interpret data to determine autonomous judgements in in the field of film and audiovisual studies, including cross-cultural and interdisciplinary thinking on cultural, historical, scientific and aesthetics topics.
• Communication skills
thanks to the specific focus on communication competences and in particular on the development and use of mediation skills, students will be able to convey information, ideas, problems and solutions to specialists and non-specialists.
• Learning skills
Thanks to the general scaffolding of the course, students will develop learning skills useful to fulfil further studies in educational linguistics and more generally speaking as learners in the second cycle or in lifelong learning education.

Course unit content

In its first part, the course will focus on the basic study of film and audiovisual culture, referring to some examples from the visual and audiovisual representation of the Shoah to emphasize the most relevant theoretical and technical aspects of moviemaking. The workshop will focus on technical issues, like film editing, and themes like the organization of festival and the activity of movie-theaters.

Teaching methods

Online lectures. During the lectures the topics of the course will be discussed in depth and some films will be screened. The lectures will be structured with the aim of stimulating the students to discuss and debate on the topics dealt with in the virtual classroom.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam will be oral and aimed at verifying the ability to understand and learn the texts in the program and the audiovisuals indicated for passing the exam. The evaluation criteria will be linked to the degree of satisfaction with respect to the mentioned parameters.
An assessment of insufficiency is determined by the lack of knowledge of the minimum contents of the course. A sufficient evaluation (18-23/30) is determined by an acceptable level of preparation by the student of the abovementioned evaluation indicators; the average scores (24-27/30) are awarded to the student who proves to have a level more than sufficient (24-25/30) or good (26-27/30) of the above evaluation indicators, the highest scores ( from 28/30 to 30/30 cum laude) are awarded based on the demonstration of a level from excellent to excellent.
