Learning objectives

Deep knowledge of physiological changes induced by exercise, necessary to develop critical faculty in the evaluation of training. A further aim is to provide a basic knowledge of the main signs, symptoms, deficit and problems of motor control deriving from lesions and diseases of the nervous system.

The Cardiovascular System and Its Control: Heart, Vascular System, Blood
The Respiratory System and Its Regulation: Pulmonary Ventilation, Pulmonary Volumes, Pulmonary Diffusion, Transport of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide in the Blood, Gas Exchange at the Muscles, Regulation of Pulmonary Ventilation
Cardiorespiratory Responses to Acute Exercise: Cardiovascular Responses to Acute Exercise; Respiratory Responses to Acute Exercise

Adaptations to Resistance Training: Resistance Training and Gains in Muscular Fitness; Mechanisms of Gains in Muscle Strength.
Adaptations to Aerobic and Anaerobic Training: Adaptations to Aerobic Training; Adaptations to Anaerobic Training

The Endocrine System: Organization and Acute and Chronic Responses to Physical Activity

Body Composition and Nutrition for Sport: Calorimetry, Assessing Body Composition; Classification of Nutrients; Water and Electrolyte Balance

Exercise Performance and Environmental Stress: Physical Activity at Medium and High Altitude; Exercise and Thermal Stress ;Sport Diving; Microgravity.

Neurology: main signs, symptoms, deficit and problems of motor control deriving from lesions and diseases of the nervous system.
