Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the necessary skills in equine patient assessment for a possible pathological situation in order to help the veterinarian to issue a correct diagnosis

Introduction to clinical examination of the horse and foal
Signaling and additional medical history
Containment of the horse and foal
instrumental function Clinical characteristics and laboratory
General Objective examination (EOG):
• Vital signs: temperature, pulse and breathing
• Mental state and behavior
• Attitude / posture, physical characteristics and facies
• Establishment, development and skeletal abnormalities
• nutrition status, body weight, muscle tone and tropism
• apparent Mucous
• Skin, subcutaneous and hydration status
• Lymph nodes explorable
• Animal welfare
Objective Examination Particular (EOP):
• Cardiovascular Examination
• Respiratory Examination
• Digestive Examination
• Neurological examination
• urinary tract examination and player
• Examination of the ocular apparatus, auditory and vestibular
• Examination apparatus integumentary
• Examination of the musculoskeletal apparatus

The importance of anamnestic data; Signalment; Equine passport; Breed, age and gender related abnormalities; physical restraint; Physical examination of the horse; Attitude/posture, special signs and facies; Constitution, development and skeletal anomalies; Nutrition status; Appearance of explorable mucous membranes; Dermal, subcutaneous and hydrated; Explorable lymph nodes; Animal welfare; Examination of the thorax, abdomen, forelimbs, head and neck musculoskeletal system, integument; Neonatal evaluation; The routes of drug administration
