Learning objectives

The student:
a) will be able to make management decisions in any functional area of the enterprise
b) will be able to deal with the production system both in a technical-operational and broader perspective
c) will pursue initiatives to improve effectiveness through a review of the strategies in which technology plays a fundamental role
d) will develop communication skills useful for an efficient interaction with production area and logistics
The course also includes group works and presentation in the classroom

Course unit content

The course analyzes the interactions between new technologies and their dissemination into modern production processes (systems of techniques, systems of processes) and production planning (systems of goods, systems of services).
The study of structural and management interdependencies of technical and social systems also includes the issue of the impact of production on the environment.
The following topics will be covered:

Principles on the methodology of complex systems
Analysis of production processes
Technology: definition and evolution
Production processes: types and comparison among types
Production systems: rigid / flexible and integrated production process
Introduction to production management
Models of stock management
Aggregate programming production
Requirements planning: MRP and JiT
Quality management. Standardization and certification

Teaching methods

The first part classifies different types of production; the second part analyzes production management. Theory is supplemented with case studies chosen from key technology areas.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment is an oral examination.
Knowledge and understanding will be assessed with an open-ended question (it worths 10 points).
The ability to apply knowledge will be assessed through a practical content question.
The independence of judgment and learning ability will be assessed by the student judgment on management production issues.

The ability to communicate with the appropriate technical language will be assessed through questions on specific technical terms
