Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to provide students with an adeguate knowledge of the history of curating during XX century, and of the main education programs for curators, their tools, in which contexts curators can operate, finally the main strategies and programs of curatorial practices.

Knowledge and understanding:
Students will be able to know how a curator operates, during the XX century and now, his tools, and main curatorial practices and programs;.
Applying knowledge and understanding:
Thanks to the organization of the activities (lessons, tutoring and individual study) students will acquire knowledge about how to create an exhibition or to design a curatorial program.
Making judgments:
Students will be able to search about literature and data in the field of museology and curatorial practices, and will be able to evaluate different strategies and methodology in the exhibition making.
Communication skills:
The student will acquire a proper specific language and communication skills, written and oral, for a brief essay about history, problems, new ideas in curating.
Learning skills:
Student will acquire skills with which he will be able to operate either on a working context, either to prosecute his studying program at a master degree level.

Course unit content

The course will be based on a brief history of curating during the XX century, then on a survey of main education programs for curators, the contemporary tendencies on curating, the tools with which curators work and the main programs and contexts.

Assessment methods and criteria

L’esame finale orale consisterà nella verifica delle conoscenze acquisite rispetto alla storia della curatela e agli oreintamenti delle pratiche curatoriali contemporanee.
Esito insufficiente è determinato da una mancanza di conoscenza minima dei contenuti del corso e della bibliografia indicata; inoltre da incapacità di comunicare i contenuti, in modo autonomo e con proprietà di linguaggio.
Valutazione sufficiente 18/23, media 24/26 e buona 27/28 rispetto agli indicatori: conoscenza dei contenuti e bibliografia, autonomia di elaborazione dei contenuti, capacità di comunicare e proprietà di linguaggio.
I punteggi 29, 30 e 30 e lode sono attribuiti a fronte della dimostrazione di una ottima o eccellente capacità di elaborazione autonoma dei contenuti e la dimostrazione di una ottima o eccellente conoscenza dei contenuti del corso.
