Integrated course unit module: REGENERATION OF DIFFERENTIATED TISSUES

Learning objectives

Knowledge and understanding.
Students need learn the fundaments of the structure and component of signaling pathways the the bone, biomaterials and implant prosthetics for tissue regeneration in implantology
Applying knowledge and understanding
Students must use known techniques for development of a protocol for the isolation, expanction and characterization of osteogenic and chondrogenic progenitors.
Making judgments
Ability to reason about biomechanics, biomaterials in regenerative medicine study appeared on an article of an international journal and/or PhD-thesis
Communications skills
Ability to understand and be understood in technical situations
Learning skills
Ability to summarize a technical procedure and to write a scientific progress report

Gain a detailed understanding on: functional anatomy of the components that structure the osteogenic stem cell niches techniques of isolation, characterization, expansion and differentiation of osteogenic and chondrogenic progenitor biomechanics of structural, molecular and cellular bone and biomaterials in regenerative medicine

Getting familiar with problems related to cellular and molecular bone metabolism, in relation to the regeneration/anabolic capability of the skeleton.

Prerequisites

Human Anatomy and Histology

Course unit content

The first lesson covers the anatomical and histological component of the bone.
Subsequent lessons treat the Biomaterials and implant prosthetics
The last lessons are focused on the osteogenic molecules and on the regeneration/osteointegration

Full programme

Techniques of bone tissue regeneration
Biomaterials and implant prosthetics and tissue regeneration in periodontology
Techniques of bone regeneration
The biomechanic, structure, molecular and cellular properties of the bone
The osteogenic molecules in the regeneration and / or the osteointegration between bones and stromal cells and biomaterials.
