Learning objectives
Knowledge of physical exercise induced adjustments and adaptations: positive effects in healthy subjects, and in main non communicable diseases; contraindication to competition in sports; sports nutrition, hydration, and supplementation; training and competing effects in adverse environmental conditions; what kind of physical activity prescribe (type, intensity, duration, frequency) in clinical context and how administer it; doping history, WADA prohibited list, national and international rule, current legislation, penalities, controls, side and expected effects of drugs. He must be able to focus doping related problem in the present social and cultural context.
Prerequisites
Physiology and biochemistry notions.
Course unit content
Exercis positive effects in healthy subjects, and in main non communicable diseases; contraindication to competition in sports; sports nutrition, hydration, and supplementation; training and competing effects in adverse environmental conditions. Doping: WADA proibited list and related risk.
Full programme
Tasks and functions of Sports Medicine; protection of competitive and non competitive sport activities, and physical activity promotion. Precompetition medical examination.
Altitude and heat illness; hydration, nutrition and supplementation. Exercise and cardiovascular risk: hypertension, diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, sedentary. Sports anemia. Strain rabdomiolysis. Fatigue (overreaching e overtraining).
Drugs and sport. Drug prescription for sport setting. Doping: definition, history, motivation, related problems, scandal, risk, and sport activity protection. National and international rules. Antidoping: controls procedures, CONI and federation regulations, FMSI role, sanctions, current legislation limits. WADA prohibited list. Fight against doping: actions strategies.
