Learning objectives

-Obtaining theoretical knowledge on family systems therapy as a model for social service practice, foster understanding and the application of a knowledge of this within a professional approach of the student in the workplace.
-Develop competences in managing a care relationship based on appropriate methodoloigal principle, in particular diretcing the professional intervention towards the family dimension taking social variation into consideration.
-Explore the meaning of certain social service tools and interventions in light of family systems therapy.
-Confront matters of evaluation and documentation in professional social service interventions.

Analyze and examine a specific sector of 'intervention of professional social work that requires special integration with the health care setting, the hospital .


These objectives will be met by attending the teaching components of the course and by studying the material indicated
The objective of the teaching is the creation of an independent ability to evaluate, communicate and learn coherent with the course’s overall objectives.

Course unit content

The first part of the course is centred around the presentation of family systems therapy, during which the following will be explored:
- Basic theory
- The stages of the methodological process within family systems therapy
- The means and specific interventions at social services’ disposal
- Social service evaluation

The second part of the course will explore the evaluation of the following aspects in social services:
- Evaluation and quality
- Capacity for self-awareness and self-evaluation
- Value-based evaluation
- Evaluation by means of qualitiative methods
- Assessment and the quality of professional action
- Approaches and methods of analysis and evaluation
- Training and evaluation




The third part of the course will focus on the documentation in social services, particularly taking into account:
tools and techniques to support the preparation of the documentation according to different text types (exhibitions, interpretive, descriptive and argumentative).

It will also detail a particular sector of the work of the social worker linked to issues of health, illness and treatment, which requires a significant integration with the health care setting and with its paradigms of meaning:
