Learning objectives
The course will provide students with the knowledge of the fundamentals of metric and stylistic analysis of Italian poetry, an introduction to Petrarchian poetry and a methodology of text analysis applied to the sonnet genre
Applied knowledge and understanding:
students will be able to apply the knowledge and understanding necessary to recognize and contextualize the main metrical and prosodic figures of Italian poetry and to autonomously make considerations on the sonnet form of the origins up to Petrarch. During the lessons we will analyze sample texts that will form the basis of the exam.
Autonomy of judgment:
students will develop skills for collecting and interpreting useful data to determine comparisons and autonomous analysis of poetic texts
Communication skills:
thanks to the skills acquired and the analysis and comparison of various critical-interpretative proposals, students will be able to organize information, ideas, problems and solutions necessary to face and communicate a sufficiently complete and autonomous analysis of a poetic text
Learning skills:
thanks to the acquired notions that provide the basis of the formal analysis of the texts, the students will develop learning skills necessary to continue with autonomy in literary studies.
Prerequisites
A basic knowledge of text analysis at the high school level is required
Course unit content
The first lessons will be devoted to general notions of metrics and prosody and to a general delineation of the Canzoniere, to then go on to concentrate on the sonnet form: hypotheses on its origin, morphology of the Sicilian and stilnovist sonnet up to the Petrarchian sonnets with reading and analysis in class The list of commented texts will be provided at the beginning of the lessons and uploaded to the Elly portal.

Assessment methods and criteria
The final test consists of an oral examination in which will be evaluated
- the competence acquired in the field of metrics and style; - knowledge of the texts examined in class; - the logical-argumentative skills of the student.
. The exam will be conducted starting from the analysis of one of the texts presented in class; from this point of departure more general observations will be developed. The student who does not show a knowledge of the basics of metrics will not be considered sufficient. The student who is able to handle the concepts and terms of the discipline with propriety will instead be considered sufficient (18-21;) those who show a greater capacity for critical processing will be judged in the good range; those who have significantly deepened the subject, demonstrating autonomous investigation skills, will be judged in the very good-excellent range (27-30).
