Course unit content

After considering the crisis of liberal-democratic societies and the problems plaguing their institutions, after reflecting on the illusions and dangers of populist and authoritarian responses, the laboratory's activities will aim to deepen the concepts, experiences and difficulties of an alternative response, one that - after the failures of state and market - places the cooperative principle of social activism from below at its centre.
Collective action of mutual cooperation for the common good is seen by many analysts as the main remedy for the widespread malaise that characterises contemporary societies and frames the collapse of the middle classes. A circumstance that has begun to show that regressive or destructive outcomes, such as those that populisms and authoritarianisms are pushing towards, can be avoided.
The laboratory intends to offer elements of reflection to ground answers to these questions, starting from the observation that the problem is ontologically linked to modern market capitalism itself as a non-cooperative system.
