Learning objectives
The course aims to enable the student to know and understand the essential elements of assistance to the labor / delivery / newborn analyzing etiology, symptomatology and treatment in low-and high-risk pregnancy. Another key objective is to be the ability to apply knowledge and understanding during simulations . The course also aims at the attainment of communication skills with the patient, the family context and all healthcare professionals involved in the event birth.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the normal labour and delivery process and Knowledge of the basic aspects of research methodology.
Course unit content
The course aims to provide the students with the theoretical and practical tools and concepts useful in dealing with the various pathologies that can arise during labor and in the immediate postpartum, with particular reference to the care of the obstetrician.

Program of the course • midwifery Assistance of the dystocic labour• Midwifery assistance to women with first and second complicated stage (abnormal fetal presentation, dynamic distortion, abnormal rhythm of contractile uterine activity • breech delivery, shoulder dystocia, forceps/vacuum • Midwifery assistance to women with a complicated third stage (pathology)

Teaching methods
Teaching methods will be frontal lessons, movie viewing, and laboratory use (clinical case analysis) to apply the acquired knowledge and understand the relational dynamics that arise in the birth event.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course involves oral evaluation and practical applications of acquired knowledge will be required.
