Learning objectives
Problematising and contextualising of the traditional canon of the Italian Renaissance literature.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of correct Italian grammar and the ability to express oneself in writing without syntax errors are considered essential prerequisites, as well as sufficient knowledge of the literary period under examination, as provided by the first-year Italian Literature course.
Course unit content
The course is devoted to the reading of Ludovico Ariosto's Satires with particular attention to questions of literary genre, models and intertextuality.

Bibliography
1. The final assessment will take the form of an individually drafted essay introducing a satire, to be agreed with the lecturer, to be handed in before the exam (and which will constitute 40% of the final assessment) and in
an oral test on the topics dealt with during the lessons and on the texts included in the bibliography of the exam.
2. An insufficient grade is determined by a lack of knowledge of the minimum course content; by an inability to express oneself in a manner appropriate to the subject matter; by a lack of independent preparation; by an inability to solve problems related to finding information and decoding texts; and by an inability to formulate judgements independently and to communicate content, analysis and judgements in a reasoned, competent and convincing manner. A sufficient mark (18-23/30) is determined by an acceptable level of performance by the student on the assessment indicators listed above; medium marks (24-27/30) are awarded to a student who demonstrates a more than sufficient (24-25/30) or good (26-27/30) level of the assessment indicators listed above; high marks (28/30 to 30/30 with distinction) are awarded on the basis of demonstration of an excellent to excellent level of the assessment indicators listed above. Other bibliography related to single aspects or single satires will be provided during the course.
Teaching methods
The course consists of lectures.
General issues concerning the interpretation of literary texts will be discussed during the lectures.
