Learning objectives
1st LEARNING ENPOINT: the student is expected to know the anatomical terminology, generalities on the architecture of the human body and of the organ systems of interest for the dental hygienists. The student is expected to know the structures stomatognathic apparatus in its macro- and microscopic aspects, in a clinical perspective.
2nd LEARNING ENPOINT; the student is expected to be able to describe shape, position, relationship, structure vascularization and innervation of the different organs of the stomatognathic apparatus, using an anatomical terminology and demonstrating to be able to establish the correct relationships with the other organ systems. The student is supposed to be able to identify individual morphological diversities providing a methodological approach preparatory to the clinical reasoning
3rd LEARNING ENPOINT: the student is expected to be able to develop an anatomical-based thinking and to possess autonomous judgement on the correlation between structure and function.
4th LEARNING ENPOINT: the student is expected to master an anatomical language

Course unit content
In the introductory part, classes will be focused on anatomical terminology and generalities of the musculoskeletal, circulatory and digestive systems
Classes will then be focused on the anatomy of the stomatognatic apparatus and of the Head and Neck, with an emphasis on the topographic description of anatomical regions of special clinical and surgical interest.
Full programme
Anatomical terminology, general anatomical descriptions (planes, axes, directional a positional terms for the body parts). Terms of movement.
Organization of the human body
Generalities on musculoskeletal system: types of bones, cartilages, classification of joints. Muscle classification and structure, general muscle mechanisms. The skull. Temporomandibular joint, masticatory and mimic muscles.
Generalities on the cardiovascular system: the hearth, general and pulmonary circulation, structure of arteries and veins
Generalities on the digestive system: organization of the GI tract and annex glands
Micro- and macroscopic anatomy of the oral cavity: dental arches, gingiva, lips, tongue, hard and soft palate: situation, vessels and nerve, lymphatic drainage. Teeth: classification and identification, morphology and function. Development of teeth, tooth eruption and changes with age. Periodontal tissues. Salivatory glands. Pharynx.

Teaching methods
Interactive class lectures. Power point slide will be projected and uploaded weekly on “Elly” platform (https://elly2023.medicina.unipr.it). Slides will be available only for Students enrolled to the Course: 3063 - DENTAL HYGIENE. Atlas, anatomical models and the laboratory of virtual interactive dissection will be also available.
Assessment methods and criteria
The achievement of the above described learning objective will be verified by written test, multiple choice, with 30/31 questions, lasting 1 hour. To reach the sufficiency (18), 18 questions must be answered correctly. Individual grades will be published on Esse3 and the students will have 7 days to accept the grade (written exam with publication of the results).
