Integrated course unit module: HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY AND CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Learning objectives

-The knowledge of the mechanisms by which the human organism obtains and maintains the homeostasis at level of cell and tissue, the mechanisms of transport and communication and the basal metabolism.
-The knowledge of the functional mechanisms of the human body organs, the knowledge of their dynamic integration in apparatuses and the general mechanisms of functional control in normal conditions and in particular pathological conditions.
-The knowledge of the main functional reports in healthy humans.

Prerequisites

Course unit content

The first part of the course is focused on the mechanisms underlying the general functions of the cells as transports, electrical and chemical communication, mechanical activity, metabolism.
The second part of the course addresses questions on the functions of the main apparatus of the body as cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal and endocrine.

Full programme

Properties and functions of cell membranes. Excitation, Conduction and Trasmission of the Nerve impulse. Muscle Excitation and Contraction. Dynamics of the Peripheral Circulation.
Electrical Impulse Formation and Conduction of the Heart. The Cardiac Pump. Cardiovascular Control. Uptake and Delivery of the Respiratory Gases. Pulmonary Gas exchange. Mechanisms of Breathing. Control of Ventilation.Physiology of the Body Fluids. Renal Functions. Regulation of the Osmolarity. Acid-base balance. Teaching methods

The course will be held through lectures to Students either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly2020.medicina.unipr.it/).

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
remote oral questions, through the Teams platform (guide http://selma.unipr.it/).
Students with SLD / BSE must first contact Le Eli-che: support for students with disabilities, D.S.A., B.E.S. (https://sea.unipr.it/it/servizi/le-eli-che-supporto-studenti-con-disabilita-dsa-bes)
