Learning objectives

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the student is expected to:
differentiate between private oral health care, public dental health and community dental health.

know the basic concepts of epidemiology, epidemiological and clinical dental indexes and their appropriate use.
describe the role of the dental hygienist in prevention and control of oral conditions in the community and the evolution of the role of dental hygienist in the community from the past up to nowadays.

be familiar with Italian guidelines of Fluoridation.

be able to identify a target population for preventive dentistry needs assessment.

Be able to implement of a preventive dentistry program as well as evaluation of the results on a short- and long-term basis.

discuss and compare preventive care needs and the roles of dental hygienists over the world.

Course unit content

This course is intended as an orientation to Preventive and Community Dental Hygiene. At the end of this course the student will Know epidemiological indices of current use to plan an oral health community program and will be familiar with the main procedures to promote oral health and to enhance prevention of oral diseases in the community.
