Anatomical terminology
Generalities on cells and tissues
Generalities on musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, digestive system.
Generalities on the skull.
Temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles.
Micro- and macroscopic anatomy of the oral cavity: dental arches, gingiva, lips, tongue, hard and soft palate: situation, vessels and nerve, lymphatic drainage.
Teeth: classification and identification
Periodontal tissues.
Salivatory glands.
Pharynx.
General embriology and development of teeth, tooth eruption and changes with age.

Teaching methods
Lectures will introduce the main aspects and peculiarities of anatomy and embriology pertinent to Dental Hygienists. Group discussion will complete the learning sessions.
Assessment methods and criteria
Completion of the goals in this course module will be verified in the main course examination.
By means of more basic questions knowledge and understanding will be tested. Other questions will examine the ability to apply such knowledge.
