Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Zoology and Botany

Course unit content

The integrated teaching of animal and plant biodiversity in natural and anthropized ecosystems for the third year of the Degree Course in Nature and Environmental Sciences is divided into two modules: Animal Biodiversity (6 CFU) and Plant Biodiversity (6 CFU) . The course provides fundamental knowledge on the principles and methods of studying biodiversity, its description, threats and possible safeguard methods. The students will be given the tools to know, describe and interpret biodiversity both in natural environments, possibly interpreting the ecological gradients that drive variations, and in environments with different anthropic impacts, from agro-forestry systems to urban areas.
Particular attention will be given to biodiversity seen not only as a target but also as a sustainability tool in agro-forestry and urbanized systems.
For further details, see the Syllabus and web links of the individual Modules (Animal Biodiversity, lecturer Prof. D.A. Grasso; Plant Biodiversity, lecturer Prof. Alessandro Petraglia).
