Learning objectives

Training in the field of remediation of contaminated aquifers through learning the characteristics of the different biological or chemical-physical techniques currently used for remediation activities.

Prerequisites

"Hydrogeology" (L34) or "Approaches and investigations for the monitoring of water resources" (LM75)

"Migration of contaminants and safety of contaminated aquifers" (LM75)

Course unit content

Scientific and professional items related to remediation approaches of contaminated aquifers

Full programme

Theoretical aspects linked to applying different biological and chemical-physical remediation technologies in situ and ex situ, including the methodological factors and criteria for choosing the optimal investigations and the times and costs of remediation obtained in different hydrogeological contexts or case studies.

Characterization plan

Field and laboratory activities dedicated to the simulation of a multidisciplinary research activity.

Site-specific risk analysis, under Italian Legislative Decree 152/06.

Environmental due diligence for assessing potential environmental liabilities in potentially contaminated sites: theory and simulation of environmental due diligence.

Management of earth and rocks from excavation in reclaimed sites.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons will be organized in person; the slides used in class will be made available in advance on the Elly platform.
The laboratory activities will be divided into five activities of approximately 3 hours.
Field trips

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination. The first question is on a topic chosen by the student, followed by questions at the discretion of the professor.

Other information

All communications regarding course activities will take place via the Elly platform. For organizational reasons, laboratory activities will be organized based on the number of participants in the frontal theoretical lessons. This information will also be communicated during the first classroom lesson.
