Learning objectives
The course enables the student to learn up-to-date scientific knowledge regarding health issues related to microbiological contamination of the air in indoor environments, especially in the healthcare environments, and the spread of the main outdoor airborne pollen and fungal spores. The purpose of the course is also to transfer the ability to understand and use appropriate terminology to and acquire language skills, competence of analysis and awareness for its active participation in the management of issues related to biological air pollution. In addition, Students will acquire suitable ability to deepen the topics presented.
Prerequisites
None.
Course unit content
The course deals with the role of aerobiological monitoring to study and manage airborne pollution in indoor and outdoor environments. Regarding indoor environments, particular attention will be paid to cleanrooms. As for outdoor environments, the course deals the main sources of airborne biological "pollution" (pollen and fungal spores). The main indoor and outdoor sampling techniques will be described, as well as how to program a monitoring plan in the national and international current regulatory context.
Full programme
Areas of human activity subject to risks of airborne microbial contamination. The role of the air and surface microbiological monitoring in the clean rooms, with particular reference to operating thetares. Biological particles and allergies. Pollen: characteristics, structure and morphology. Allergens. Pollen concentrations and land management. Thunderstorm asthma. The main sources of indoor allergens. Sampling and monitoring networks. norms and guidelines.
Bibliography
Didactic material provided by the teacher and available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly).
Teaching methods
Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly).
Assessment methods and criteria
The achievement of the objectives set by the course will be ascertained through a written exam in person, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. The verification concerns the achievement of the objective of knowledge of the proposed topics, the ability to critically analyze the issues addressed using the technical-scientific language appropriately. The result of the exam will be published on the ESSE3 portal (https://unipr.esse3.cineca.it/Home.do). Students with SLD / BSE must contact Le Eli-che in advance: support for students with disabilities, D.S.A., B.E.S.
