Learning objectives
The course will allow students to acquire updated and critical notions on:
- several mirroring systems;
- the main models of intersubjectivity and the relevance of the mirror neurons mechanism to build a new neuroscientific model of the basic forms of intersubjectivity.
Prerequisites
Notions on the anatomo-physiological organization of the central nervous system and especially of the cortical motor system.
Course unit content
The course will address the systems involving mirror mechanism at anatomo-functional level, and the embodied simulation applying this knowledge to the study of intersubjectivity.
Full programme
Anatomical circuits at the basis of the mirror system. Mirror mechanisms for emotions and sensations in monkeys and humans. The main theoretical models of intersubjectivity (Theory of Mind; Theory-Theory; Simulation Theory; Empathy). The model of Embodied Simulation and its bearing on linguistics, psychopathology and aesthetics.
