Learning objectives

The course introduces students to the fields of Enterprises Resources Planning, ERP, and Third-Parties Manufacturers, specifically to the Module of cost analysis, cost planning and Cash Management.

With the successful completion of the course students will have mastered:

a) as far as knowledge and understanding are concerned, the ERP & BI Systems, specifically the Managerial Accounting Information Systems, and the Treasury Management.

b) the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the CO-Controlling Module and the T.P. Software of Cash Management within the Planning and Control Department. Students will be capable to assist Management Accountants in determining the costs of product, service and other Cost Objects, as well as Treasury Management with the use of Management Advanced Information Systems:
the mentioned ability to apply knowledge and understanding assumes a working placement period, possibly a university organized internship.

c) the potential of understanding how and why managers making judgements and evaluate alternative choices concerning ERP and T.P. Manufacturers Softwares. Moreover, students could evaluate the issues and opportunities related to the localization of different Information Systems. Almost autonomously S/he will assist the controller in the definition of the organizational, economic and financial consequences arising from the use of different IT methodologies.

d) Communication skills consisting of the use of an appropriated technical language used to relate with those involved in the management and financial accounting with the used of advanced technologies, i.e. ERP and B.I. The students will have improved their problem-solving skills.

e) Learning skills, specifically the ability to undertake more advanced studies with a degree of autonomy, particularly with reference to the Post-Degree and Diploma courses of ERP Management, e.g. SAP, Oracle, Infor, Microsoft and moreover Third-Parties Manufacturers software.

Prerequisites

It is assumed in this laboratory that students have an appreciation and a good understanding of Advanced Management Accounting topics.

Course unit content

The contents of the Laboratory of Management Advanced Information Systems, MAIS, concern the study and application of modern Enterprise Resources Planning systems and the so-called Third Parties Manufacturers Management Software.
The laboratory intends, through the constant presence of Company Testimonials, to introduce students to the modern management systems widely used in medium and large companies. The contents of the Laboratory (e.g. System Integrators, Best-of-Breed Vendors, integration of ERP systems with other management suites, CO-controlling module and Treasury management) are of great importance for the students who will occupy operational and managerial roles within businesses.

3) Integration of ERP Systems with otherT.P. Manufacturers Software.
4) ERP and Advanced Management Accounting, CO Controlling Module: Cost Element Accounting (CO-OM-CEL) and Cost Center Accounting (CO-OM-CCA).
5) Controlling Data Input and Planned Cost Object (Product).
6) Actual Cost Object (Product) and Profitability Analysis (the ERP Module CO-PA).
7) the ERP Module Profit Center Accounting (EC-PCA): an introduction.
8) Digital Payment, Financial Planning and Cash Management Software of Third Parties Manufacturers.
9) Cash Flow Management and Integrated Cash Pooling Information Systems of Corporate Groups.

Teaching methods

Lessons in streaming. Continuous attendance and guidance of Business Testimonials. Active learning method will be applied for this course. Active learning is the special teaching method that place students in the centre of the learning process, and Professors are behaved as the guide to indicate the direction of student’s learning, rather than the person only to transmit their knowledge. The are several requirements to take this course. Students will be asked to seek for their purpose of learning in all processes of the course, required to work with other students to collaborate as the group, and delivered presentations and opinions in front of all participants, and to write a brief dissertation.
The Laboratory of MAIS was intended to take place in a Computer Room with Softwares provided by Third Parties. The pandemic and the distance-learning setting greatly influenced the implementation.

Assessment methods and criteria

Group Presentation. It is required that every single member of each teamwork will effectively participate to the presentation and discussion with the teacher.
Group Final Report limited to a maximum of 5000 words.
The presentation and the report may be either in English or in Italian.
Readings are provider in English Language.
Both the documents have to be uploaded on Moodle-Elly on the exam scheduled dates.
