Learning objectives

The integrated course of Hearing IV aims to enable the student to know and understand the basic elements of inflammatory diseases of the middle ear. The student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding to formulate a correct diagnostic approach audiological instrumental in acute and chronic ear infections. Where the student also gain knowledge and understanding about the diagnostic of childhood deafness, the related methods of instrumental audiological evaluation of hearing impairment, and general information about the Cochlear.

Course unit content

The Course Hearing IV aims to address the most important issues in the field of inflammatory diseases of the ear. The topics are addressed to the basic elements of etiology, diagnosis and principles of treatment of acute and chronic ear infections. In particular, we consider the middle ear cholesteatoma (congenital and acquired), secretory otitis media in children and in adults, purulent otitis simple and their outcomes. Complications of otomastoiditi, with main reference to peripheral paralysis of the facial nerve, complement the topics covered by the Corso.Il course also aims to cover topics such as: diagnostic process in childhood deafness, behavioral audiometry, otoacoustic emissions, evoked potentials auditory in the diagnosis of hearing loss in children, the electrocochleography. The newborn hearing screening and school age. The lessons on the generality of the Plant Cochlear concern: selection protocol, notes of surgical technique, electrophysiological tests intra operators, activation and regulation.

Teaching methods

The course will be held through lectures to Students either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly.medicina.unipr.it).
The course program is carried out using the slide show and short films, in order to achieve greater student participation. The last minutes of the lesson is devoted to the discussion, in order to clarify and supplement the subject matter.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination.In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:

The Assessment and knowledge acquired is held during the appeals provided for by the teaching calendar, through oral, in the presence of the Committee of the Faculty of Integrated course Hearing IV. The student must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and audiological indications of ear infections. You also require knowledge on childhood deafness, the tools available in their audiological evaluation and directions and basic features of the Plant Cochlear.
