Learning objectives

At the end of the course, students will have a wide and critical view of Earth materials for architecture, their decay and conservation.

During the course, students will improve their communication skills with specific reference to technical and scientific language relevant to restoration.

Earth materials in architecture; architectural surface degradation; geoarchitecture and urban geology, case studies

Full programme

-Characterization of Earth materials in architecture
-Analysis of deterioration and conservation techniques of of natural and artificial stones.
-Materials and deterioration mapping and the conservation project.

Assessment methods and criteria

Collective reviews and presentations of the projects will allow an initial assessment of the language properties and communication skills of the students. During the examination, the presentation of the papers agreed with the teacher will be evaluated.
