Integrated course unit module: APPLIED PSICOBIOLOGY

Learning objectives

Students should acquire the knowledge of basic concepts and methods of scientific psychology, the knowledge of the functional mechanisms of main psychological processes underlying human behaviour and their neural bases.
Moreover students should acquire the capacity to apply the knowledge in specific sports contexts. They should acquire the capacity of deepening and updating the arguments.

The mind-brain relationship. Coding of sensory information. Thresholds and psychophysics. Neural bases of visual perception. Perceptual organization. Perceptual recognition. Space and movement perception. Selective and spatial attention. Attention and sport. Associative and cognitive learning. Motor learning. Cortical organization of the movement. Cognitive aspects of the movement. Memory and amnesia. Neural bases of memory. Elements of psychology of emotion. How to measure emotion. Emotion regulation. Emotion and sport. Identification and regulation of motivation. Sport and game. Self-efficacy training and its relation with sport. Decision making and its training. Interpersonal and group dynamics.

Lecture

Assessment methods and criteria

A written exam will be used to determine if students have met the goals of this course. The knowledge of the general principles of the mental functions will be tested. The capacity of students to make connections among these principles and sports behaviour will be tested as well.
