Learning objectives

The course aims to allow the student to acquire
1. basic knowledge of the main laboratory tests.
2. the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to conditions of interest for
their future professional activity;
3. the ability for correct interpretation of the results of laboratory tests

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of biology, cytology, histology and genetics is required to understand the topics covered in the course

Course unit content

The lessons cover the issues related to laboratory tests and their interpretation.

Treatment and conservation of biological samples.
Evaluation criteria of the analytical data and interpretation.

Laboratory hematology.

The laboratory of kidney failure.

The laboratory in liver diseases.

The laboratory in cardiovascular diseases.

Carbohydrate metabolism.

Laboratory principles in immunology.

Tumor markers.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons. During the lessons we will discuss the issues related to laboratory tests in relation to nursing.

Assessment methods and criteria

Learning outcomes will be verified through an oral examination.
Questions on the topics relating to the course will be used to test
knowledge and understanding of the student in the scientific discipline,
and her/his ability to apply such knowledge and understanding in
occupational contexts.
