Learning objectives

At the end of the course the student should be able to:
-understand and write notes, messages, memos, emails, business letters, short reports and business proposals.
-interact in English effectively and with a degree of fluency and spontaneity in every day business situations

Course unit content

The course prepares the student to acquire an upper-intermediate level of competences to be used in the world of work. So during the exam the student will be asked to use English effectively in every day business situations .

The course will lead the student to understand and analyze a complex business text taken from financial newspapers. At the end of the course the student should be able to write business texts (notes, messages, emails, memos, letters, reports, proposals) in a clear and concise language. Moreover, he/she should communicate in English effectively in every day business situations and with a degree of fluency and spontaneity; he/she should also be able to explain his/her viewpoint .

Assessment methods and criteria

Written and oral assessment.
The written assessment consists of 3 parts: an error identification task and two pieces of business writing (a note, message, memo, email to a colleague or colleagues within the company and a letter, short report or proposal to somebody outside the company).
The oral assessment is about 10 business/political articles taken from The Financial Times.
