Learning objectives


The student has to know the legislation on informed consent and be able to deal with the different cases that arise in this field, and which are regulated by law 219/17. The student must have become aware of the need for training in communication with the patient, especially if with chronic diseases or poor prognosis.

Course unit content


The nurse-patient relationship; communication with the patient, in particular with the patient with neurodegenerative and psychiatric pathology. Law 219/17 on consent: information to the patient, the collection of consent and dissent, the refusal of care, artificial nutrition and hydration, the advance planning of treatments, ethical aspects of palliative care, the living will, terminal patient rights. The jurisprudence on consent and emblematic cases that have posed ethical problems.
