Integrated course unit module: SPORT MEDICINE AND DOPING

Learning objectives

During the course the student will know the cardiac diseases and the risk factors for these diseases. The student will know the meaning of the diagnostic tests in Cardiology.
The student will know the causes of sudden death in athletes.

Prerequisites

To know the cardiovascular anatomy.
To know the cardiac physyiology

Course unit content

The course will be divided into three parts.
The first part: Cardiovascular anatomy; Cardiovascular physiology.
Risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Arterial Hypertension.
Cardiovascular stratification for cardiovascular risk. Cardiovascular prevention.

The second part:
Coronary artery
disease: classification, epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic tests , treatment.
Primary cardiomyopathies. Hypertensive heart disease.
Valvular heart disease.
Heart failure.

The third part:
Athlete's heart.
Sudden death in sport.
Prevention through physical exercise.
Diagnostic tests in cardiology: exercise stress test,
echocardiography, cardiac MNR, computed tomography, cardiac
catheterization and coronary angiography.

-Cardiovascular physiology.
-Cardiovascular risk factors: smoking, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes ... -Stratification of risk: European and Italian risk cards

Heart diseases: ischemic heart disease, cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease. heart failure


Cardiovascular Adaptation to physical exercise.
Sudden Death in athletes.
Diagnostic tests in Cardiology (ECG, etc.).
