To understand and familiarize with the main techniques of biological laboratory and of their applications. To acquire basic abilities in view of laboratory activities both for subsequent lab stages in University or other institutions and for future occupation.

Course unit content
Theoretical introduction and practical application of the main procedures and basic techniques employed in biological research laboratories: solution preparation; micropipetting; microscopy; sterility and microbiological cultures; centrifugation; spectrophotometry; extraction, quantification and amplification of DNA; protein and nucleic acid electrophoresis; chromatography.

Teaching methods
The course is based on tutored practical activities within teaching laboratories. It will also include short classroom lectures aimed at introducing the main theoretical aspects related to the different techniques.
Assessment methods and criteria
The exam will be without mark, it will end with a judgement on the acquired skills and capacities. These will be evaluated on the basis of a final written report synthetically describing the laboratory experiences followed during the course.
