Internships

The University of Parma promotes curricular internships in order to facilitate professional choices through direct knowledge of the world of work and the realisation of moments of alternation between study and work.
The curricular internship integrates and completes the student's training pathway through the performance of practical activities which, in accordance with the provisions of the Didactic Regulations of their course of study, may be carried out in facilities within the University or externally at qualified public and private organizations with which the University has entered into appropriate agreements.
The internship involves three subjects: the student, the promoter (the University of Parma) and the host (company or organization) where the activity is carried out under the guidance of a university tutor, a University instructor and a company tutor.
The curricular internship does not constitute a prerequisite for an employment relationship between the trainee and the host structure, nor can it be a substitute for company labour or professional services.
The internship is carried out by students ENROLLED IN THE THIRD YEAR and may be carried out inside (INTERN INTERNSHIP) or outside university facilities (EXTERNAL INTERNSHIP).
Before activating the internship on the ESSE3 platform, check that the chosen type of work placement is listed in the study plan, otherwise you should change your study plan in good time.

INTERNAL INTERNSHIP

In order to enrol, the student must have acquired the required 130 CFUs.
The internal intership lasts approximately three months and can be carried out in the following approximate periods: MARCH-AUGUST and SEPTEMBER-FEBRUARY.
Students wishing to attend the internship must register by following the online procedure (see below the 'register for traineeship' link), indicating the period of attendance, a desired start date and four preferences regarding the scope of the workshop.
Registration for the traineeship must be made by 5 March for the March-July period, by 31 August for the September-February period. The duration of the traineeship will depend on the hours of attendance per week.  Students may change or cancel their registration at any time.
The application is submitted by filling in the form provided ("Internship Application"), and expressing your preferences (4 choices in order of preference) INTERNSHIP APPLICATION (active from 1 July 2022 to 31 August 2022) Internship applications submitted online will be examined by a special Commission of the Degree Course Council, which will proceed to approve them and make the relevant allocations. Assignment to the internship laboratory will be decided taking into account, as far as possible, the preferences expressed and the number of CFUs actually acquired (recorded on the electronic transcript and provided to the committee by the Academic Office) by the student on 5 March or 31 August respectively for the two periods of attendance mentioned above.

ASSIGNMENT OF THE INTERNSHIP After the official assignment of the internship, the student must log on to esse3 to the new dedicated platform set up by the University's Training Internship Service, indicate the name of the academic tutor assigned to him/her (the academic tutor of reference for internal internships is Prof. Paolo Lunghi) and accept the internship.
The duration of the internship should correspond, depending on the cohort to which it belongs to: 375 hours (15 CFUs) for the 2012-13 cohort; 300 hours (12 CFUs) for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 cohorts; 275 hours (11 CFUs) for the 2015-16 cohort and onwards.
It will therefore be important for the student to start the procedure as soon as possible using the provided platform so that the internship can be started and completed by the desired date.

EXTERNAL INTERNSHIP

The student must have acquired at least 90 CFU to be eligible for the external internship.
Registration for the traineeship can be done at any time of the year.
As of 1 January 2017, the procedure for enrolling in an internship to be carried out in an external structure is via access to the online platform set up by the University of Parma. Therefore, follow the instructions provided therein carefully (guides are available for both students and host organization managers).
In short: first of all, the chosen structure must be accredited on the platform and request or confirm (if already existing) the agreement with the University of Parma. At that point, the facility manager can enter the training project for the internship and the data required to activate the internship. It is necessary to move well in advance of the planned start date of the internship as all procedures must be completed in order to obtain the necessary authorisation to carry out the traineeship in the external structure.
Students who have contacted a laboratory outside the University of Parma in which to carry out the internship must first of all identify a lecturer on the degree course who is willing to follow the project as university tutor, it being understood that the Academic Tutor to be indicated on the esse3 form at the time of acceptance is the contact person for internships: Prof. Paolo Lunghi.

Conclusion of internship

At the end of the internship period, the lecturer acting as university tutor must fill in the appropriate evaluation form (if the internship is internal) or check that it has been filled in by the manager of the external structure (if the internship is external), and in any case formulate/validate the overall grade (assessment). The form must then be sent in .pdf format; by e-mail) by the university tutor to Prof. Paolo Lunghi (paolo.lunghi@unipr.it), who will take the minutes. The student must also prepare and send (in .pdf format; by e-mail) to Prof. Paolo Lunghi (paolo.lunghi@unipr.it) a short one-page report following the instructions given in the final report template.
The student is also required to complete an internship evaluation questionnaire, which must be uploaded to esse 3 at the end of the internship (Attention: this is indispensable for the closure/registration in the internship career)!
