Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to allow the student to achieve the main instruments in
order to describe animal structure and function and to know the main animal taxa.

Prerequisites

Elementary concepts of Biology usually acquired in secondary school courses.

Course unit content

After the introduction to the origin of life, the aim of this course is to examine the cell and the main functional systems of animals. The second part concerns the
survival strategies of animal species. In particular, the main topics are the
reproduction, the evolution and the animal behaviour. The last part concerns the
diversity of animal kingdom, from invertebrates to vertebrates.

Teaching methods

Frontal and practical lessons with audio/video support material to examin specific examples

Assessment methods and criteria

Written and oral test. The written test consists of three open questions to verify the theoric knowledge and the ability of its application by the student. The oral test aims to evaluate the learned knowledges and the ability to make links among the spefic topics. The student is allowed to the oral test only after a positive mark in the written one.
