Characters segregation. Mendelian genetics. Independent assortment. Gene interaction. Chromosome theory of inheritance. Genes on X chromosome. Chromosome structure in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Multiple alleles. Linkage and recombination. Crossing over. Non-mendelian inheritance. Elements of microbial genetics. Recombination in yeast. Tetrad analysis. Recombination in bacteria, transformation, conjugation, recombination in virus. Identification of the genetic material. DNA: structure and replication. RNA structure, transcription and translation. The one-gene:one-enzyme theory. Structure of the gene (Benzer); complementation; cistron. Regulation of gene expression in prokaryotes. Operon Lac: negative and positive control. Spontaneous and induced mutation. Genome, chromosome and gene mutation.Setection of spontaneous or induced mutants. Selection strategy. Mutation frequency. Molecular basis of mutations.
