The purpose of the course is to gain knowledge of the etio-pathogenetic mechanisms of human diseases as well as notions of semeiotics and medical terminology.

Definitions and nomenclature of benign and malignant neoplasms.
Protooncogenes, oncogenes and oncoproteins. Tumor suppressor genes.
Tumour diagnosis and biological basis of anti-neoplastic therapies.
Transmission patterns of single-gene disorders (Familial hypercholesterolemia, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease).
