Learning objectives
The main aim of the course is the understanding of the Italian economy, of its problems and of the policies to deal with them. Specific focus will be devoted to the economic and social disparities at regional level.
Prerequisites
Basic macroeconomics and microeconomics
Course unit content
The Course deals with the main issues of the Italian economy adopting a spatial approach. Demography, labour market, macroeconomic trends, income distribution, international trade will all be issues of analysis and discussion. A specific attention will be paid to regional inequalities in each of these fields.
Full programme
The course will examine the structural problems of the Italian economy. The low birth rates in the demographic filed; the low rates of GDP and productivity growth at macroeconomic level; the low rates of employment and the high rates of unemployment in the labour market; the problem of relative and absolute poverty, specially after the recent economic crisis; the placement of the country in the network of international trade. A special attention will be devoted to the spatial dimensions of all these issues.

Teaching methods
Lectures and team works for attending students. For each issue there will be one or more lectures where the teacher will make available material didactic. Students will prepare a report on the same issues using the material didactic and will present it in class.
Assessment methods and criteria
Attending students will prepare and present a report on the Italian economy using the intermediate reports presented during the course.
