Integrated course unit module: IMMUNOLOGY AND IMMUNOHEMATOLOGY

Learning objectives

This module aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge necessary for the understanding and subsequent practical application of techniques in the immunohaematological and transfusion field.

The course aims to provide specific knowledge in the field of laboratory techniques used in Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine Laboratory. In particular, will be explored in depth topics of Transfusion Medicine and techniques for preparing blood components and blood products will also be presented.

Full programme

-The membrane of the red blood cell. Erythrocyte antigens.
-Separation techniques for first and second level blood components and their treatments (filtration, irradiation, washing, etc.)
- Research of blood group and Rh factor
-The transfusion process
- Neonatal hemolytic disease
- Immunohaematological and immunoenzymatic techniques
- Research techniques for the main blood transmissible viral diseases (serology and NAT)
