Learning objectives
The applied medical technical sentences course is included in the integrated Audioprotesi II course and allows the student to know and understand the fundamental elements of vocal audiometry. The student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding to formulate a correct interpretation of intelligibility curves: s italic, plateau, bell or roll-over. The student must also demonstrate that he has learned impedenzometry techniques: tympanograms classification, tubal function assessment, stapedial reflexes stimulation and interpretate the differentation of trasmission, cochlear, retrocochlear, trunk and facial nerve pathologies.

Course unit content
the pratical course includes attendance at the audio-vestibology laboratory of medicine and surgery departement in Parma university. Students learn the basic methods of tonal audiometry, with which they had become familiar during the first semester. They begin, at the same time, the knowledge and the comprehension of the audiology fundamental branches, namely vocal audiometry and impedenzometry. The first phase of the educational program involves the phonetic material study: bisyllabic words, logotomes, sentences. Subsequently, with tutor's help, the students perform the various methods of vocal audiometry, through earphones and free field, applying the masking of the controlateral ear when necessary. The second phase is represented by the impedenzometry in the areas of tympanometry, stapedial reflexometry and tubal funcionality study.

Teaching methods
Pratical lessons on field. The student, under the supervision of a tutor and also with the necessary propaedeutics, he become familiar firstly with the audiological instrumentation to know and understand its functionality and purpose. Then he personally performs the instrumental investigation of vocal audiometry and impedenzometry, always assisted by a tutor. The student also learns the ability to correctly classify the vocal intelligibility curves to integrate the audiometric and impedance tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam. The student must demonstrate that he has learned vocal audiometry and impedenzometry techniques. In applying the knowledge and the comprehension of the method. He must be able to correctly interpret what is proposed, with an instrument simulation.
