Integrated course unit module: RUSSIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

Learning objectives

1. To discuss the concept of 'non-standard material' and its use in the RKI classroom.
2. To get acquainted with online resources that allow optimizing the process of language acquisition.
3. To learn modern methodologies combining communicative, cognitive and emotional approaches
4. To enhance linguistic and cultural skills with full immersion into the culture of the target language.


Language level: B2
Any knowledge of geography, cultural and visual studies is welcome.

Course unit content

The course consists of 5 modules devoted to the use of non-standard material for RKI (Russian as a foreign language) lessons. The course analyses innovative methodologies, examines song and audio-visual material, and discusses contemporary approaches to teaching RKI.

Full programme

1. Introduction. Identifying the audience. Collective discussion about RKI material and resources.
2. Internet resources: what, how, why.
3. "He who walks through life with a song will never be lost". Songs in the RKI lessons.
4. "Three apples fell from the sky ⏤ one to the one who saw, one to the one who told, and one to the one who listened and believed in good". Fairy tales in the RKI lessons.
5. "There are those who manage to bring their subconscious to life". Cartoons in the RKI lessons.
6. "Are you selling fish or just showing?" Memes in RKI lessons.


The course is predominantly oriented to practical activities. Articles and references to major works are included in the Bibliography at the end of the course.

Teaching methods

Group discussions, guest lectures, interactive assignments.
Attendance and active participation are encouraged.

Assessment methods and criteria

At the end of the course, students should present an example of RKI lesson on a selected topic from those to be covered during the course.
