Learning objectives

- A conscious approach to the specific problems of disciplinary teaching
- Knowledge of the main teaching tools used in the school (Anthologies; Lexicon; Handbooks; Exercise books)
- Training in the use of Internet resources for educational purposes

Prerequisites

A sure knowledge of the main historical and cultural periods of Italian literature is required, as well as knowledge - by direct reading - of the fundamental classics of our literary tradition.

Course unit content

The course addresses some crucial issues related to learning the fundamentals of literary study at school. Articulating the themes in two fundamental areas of work:
a) The approach to the literary text as a means of conscious access to the forms of the narrative imaginary (addressing issues related above all to the teaching of lower secondary school and the two-year period of upper secondary school)
b) The historical approach to the study of Italian literature (linked to didactic activity in the context of the three-year period of secondary school).

Full programme

These are the points that will be mainly discussed during the lessons and in the seminar activities connected to them.
The work areas are indicated below:
- The role of didactic planning ('programmazione') and of school verification tests
- Literature and language: literature as a tool for linguistic awareness (lexical; logic; hermeneutics)
- The connection between knowledge and competence.
- The narrative imaginary: literature as a tool to access a conscious relationship with the narrative imaginary (visual and audiovisual)
- Literature and ethical dimension: literature as a tool for psychological, communicative and introspective awareness.
- Literature as an awareness of historical depth, comparison with the other in time and space
- Italian literature, the problem of canon and tradition. The tools for a conscious and formative approach.

A lot of didactic material (anthologies and literary stories in use at the school) will be offered in the classroom during the lessons.
Non-attending students must agree on additional study activities with the teacher.

Teaching methods

The lectures (about 50% of the course) will be accompanied by many laboratory and seminar activities: analysis and comparison of didactic tools available on the market; preparation of original verification tests; comparative evaluation of methods and applications; exercises on the use of IT tools for educational purposes.

Assessment methods and criteria

1) in progress. During the lessons the students will produce works on a specific mandate (evaluation test; planning of teaching units, etc.), in which the indications proposed in the lectures and in the seminars will be applied. This work will form an integral part of the final evaluation
2) Final check:
- written design of a concrete didactic proposal (with indication of the texts used, of the objectives; of the didactic tools used; of the working methods)
- oral interview on the main topics addressed in class, but always starting from the proposals contained in the written project.
Non-attending students must make an appointment with the teacher, at least 20 days before the exam, to agree on specific work activities that will be verified in the exam.
