1.Getting to know the new idea of Palliative Care
2. Describe the main objectives of palliative care
3. Understand the main needs of the sick person
4. To know the basic elements of bad news communication with the sick person and family in palliative care
5. Recognising the main symptoms of the person in palliative care
6. To know the global assessment of the person: narrative interview

Course unit content


1. The new idea of palliative care (commentary on the WHO definition)
2. Objectives of palliative care: quality of life, pain control, accompaniment along the disease course, active and participatory listening, compassion satisfaction, fatigue
3. The main needs of the person and the family: physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs
4. The communication of bad news: integrated activity between doctor, nurse and psychologist
5. The main symptoms: dyspnoea, pain, cachexia, fatigue, delirium
6. The narrative interview between pNurse and patient
