Integrated course unit module: HEALTH PROMOTION

Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the student with the basis for understanding the meaning of concepts of risk and health risk factor. The course aims to promote the health professional's understanding of the possible health consequences of exposure to different risk factors. At the end of the course the student will be able to know and use the personal protective equipment in the required context, as a measure of prevention of physical, chemical and biological risk.

Course unit content

The course provides basic knowledge of legislation on safety, health and protection in the workplace. The basic concepts of occupational medicine and the issues necessary to know the links between exposure to risk agents and occupational diseases, with particular reference to work risks in the health environment, will be addressed.

The Occupational Medicine in the regulatory system of prevention and safety at the workplace.
European and national regulations for safety and prevention in the workplace.
Responsibility of the employer, the manager, the person in charge of the worker.
Occupational hazards in the health field.
Chemical agents, safety data sheets, labeling, risk assessment, prevention of risks and occupational diseases, procedures and personal protective equipment and the environment.
Physical agents, risk assessment, prevention and protection.
Biological agents, risk assessment, prevention and protection.

Teaching methods

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly).

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course is through a written test. The test consists of 30 multiple choice questions on the course contents (reference texts + documents uploaded to Elly during the course). There is no penalty for incorrect answers.
