Learning objectives
- Knowing the basic concepts of atomic theory and chemical bonding;
- knowing the properties of elementary substances and major organic compounds;
- knowing and being able to apply knowledge regarding aqueous solutions, concentrations, acid/base behavior and pH;
- knowing the structure and function of macromolecules of biological interest.
Prerequisites
Course unit content
Basic principles of General Chemistry, atomic theory and chemical bonding; chemical reactions and their properties. Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry, macromolecules of biological interest.
Particular attention will be paid to topics related to laboratory activities.

Teaching methods
The course will be held through lectures to Students in the classroom.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on Elly platform (https://elly2020.medicina.unipr.it/).
Assessment methods and criteria
Written test with closed answers; it consists of 30 multiple choice questions. The time allotted for the execution of the test is 60 minutes. Each positive answer contributes with 1 point to the determination of the final grade. The results of the written tests are notified through esse3 platform.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be held as follows: structured written test conducted remotely (by Teams and/or Elly). The test consists of 6 open-ended questions (3 questions on Chemistry and P.B. and 3 on Biochemistry).
Students with SLD / BSE must first contact Le Eli-che: support for students with disabilities, D.S.A., B.E.S. (https://sea.unipr.it/it/servizi/le-eli-che-supporto-studenti-con-disabilita-dsa-bes).
