Integrated course unit module: BIOETHICS, DEONTOLOGY AND PROFESSIONAL ETHICS

Learning objectives

The course intends to introduce the student to main Ethics concept guiding the profession of Radiologic Technologists to protect the integrity of the profession and enhance the delivery of patient care: respecting confidences entrusted in the course of professional practice, respecting the patient’s right to privacy, protecting the welfare of the individual or the community.
- The course aims the students to reach awareness about the needs for the Radiologic Technologist to continually improve knowledge and skills by participating in continuing education and professional activities, sharing knowledge with colleagues and investigating new aspects of professional practice.
- Knowledge of the laws characterizing the exercise of the Radiologic Technologists profession
- Concept about the administrative arrangements for the professional activities of a Radiologic Technologists
- Knowledge of classification of skills, activities and responsibilities of the Radiologic Technologists

Prerequisites

- Basic of Forensic Medicine
- Basic of Occupational Medicine
- Governing Law and mandatory part of the radiation protection

Course unit content

- Evolution of the figure of the radiologic technologist and the main rules governing the exercise of the profession: exercises care, discretion and judgment; assumes responsibility for professional decisions; and acts in the best interest of the patient.
Introduction to ethical conduct appropriate to the profession and protection of patient’s right to quality radiologic technology care.
- Analysis of the Code of Ethics of the Radiologic Technologist and the specific relationships with the various operational areas: Radiodiagnostic, Nuclear Medicine, Radiotherapy, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Mammography, etc.
- General information about the professional organizations of Radiologic Technologists at local, national and European level.

Teaching methods

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, providing further instructions on eventual ongoing health emergency.
