Integrated course unit module: ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE AND OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE

Learning objectives

The Course of Clinical Pathology is part of the Integrated Course of Environmental Hygiene and Occupational Medicine.

The course aims to enable the student to know and understand the main laboratory tests, in order to achieve the ability to use the knowledge and understanding gained in identifying the patient's problems related to the disease

Course unit content

The first lessons cover general topics regard to biological materials and preparation of the patient. The second part of the course covers the main laboratory tests and their clinical interpretation.

Full programme

a) Blood sampling;
b) main hematochemical parameters: glycaemia, cholesterolemias with triglyceridemia, electrolytes;
c) blood count;
d) indexes of renal function;
e) indexes of liver function;
f) evaluation of coagulation;
g) main tumor serological markers:
h) urine test.

Teaching methods

The course will be held through lectures either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly2020.medicina.unipr.it/).
During the lessons will discuss the issues related to laboratory tests and their interpretation

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course will include in-course tests with multiple choice quiz. At the oral exam by questions regarding the contents of the course will be determined whether the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and understanding of the content and if it is able to apply the knowledge gained.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
