Learning objectives
Knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course, the student will acquire the basic knowledge relating to the different type of materials and to their specific production technologies.
Applying knowledge and understanding
The student will be able to make proper choices in material selection for a specific application. The students will be able to make proper choices in materials transformation process. Thanks to the lab experience, the students will be able to use the acquired knowledge to analyze and process numerical data to support their decision-making.
Making judgements
On passing the exam, the student will develop the ability to critically evaluate the material properties for a specific application and to propouse the appropriate production technology.
Communication skills
On passing the exam, the student should acquire sufficient language property, at least as regards the technical terminology specific of the course.
Learning skills
Students who take the course will be able to deepen their knowledge in the field of materials by consulting on their own specialized texts or dissemination journals, even outside of the topics covered closely in class.

Teaching methods
The course includes:
(i) theoretical lectures made with the aid of multimedia systems. The didactic material is uploaded at the start of the course on the platform “Elly” (http://elly.dia.unipr.it);
(ii) experimental labs on the material characterization;
(iii) educational visits.
The lab activity will be presented in a short report by each group (2/3 students) and it will be discussed during the course.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final examination involves presenting, both in written and in oral form with transparencies, a personal in-depth study of a subject presented during the course.
