Learning objectives

At the end of the course, the Student must have acquired the anatomical, etiopathogenetic, instrumental and operational knowledge to carry out diagnosis, implement prevention protocols, set and carry out conservative therapy plans, both in "normal" and "at risk" patients of the hard tissues of the tooth that aim at the morphological, functional and aesthetic restoration and in respect of the health of the periodontal tissues and the function of the stomatognathic apparatus. In the same way he will have to know, diagnose and prevent diseases of the dental pulp.

Course unit content

• Know the embryology, anatomy and physiology of the structures of the splancnocranium and, in particular, of the oral cavity, of the teeth and of the constituents of the stomato-gnatic apparatus;
• Know the ecosystem of the oral cavity and, in particular, the microorganisms of the mucobacterial plaque and their cariogenic role;
• Know the mechanisms of phlogosis (angio-phlogosis and histophlogosis) and of the local and systemic immune response;
• Know the fundamentals of inorganic chemistry: chemical bonds, solutions, oxide-reductions, acids and bases and of inorganic and biomolecular chemistry.
• Know the physical-chemical, product characteristics and methods of use and conservation, in line with international directives and standards, of dental materials used in conservative and endodontic treatment;
• Know the fundamentals of Mechanics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Rheology, Optics, Electrophysics, Radiation Physics, Radiation Protection Principles and Radiographic Technique;
• Know the principles of prophylaxis of infectious diseases and cross infections, of ergomomic disinfection and sterilization of the instruments;
• Know the principles of Pharmacology and Anesthesiology.

Teaching methods

Class lessons: the program themes will be discussed with the aid of slides. The proposed topics will be the subject of collective discussion and study on the basis of ideas and any questions raised during the lessons themselves.
Due to the emergency situation, lessons may also be delivered remotely (either in synchronous or asynchronous mode) via Microsoft Teams.

The achievement of the goals of the course is verified by an oral exam.
Answering questions about the contents of the course, the student will demonstrate whether he/she has achieved the goals of knowledge and understanding of the contents
