Learning objectives
The first series of lectures aims at introducing students to the mathematical research in fields which are investigated by the members of the Mathematical Unity of the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Computer Sciences.
The second series of lectures aims at teaching students properties and how to use the main mathematical databases (and also some databases in
fields close to mathematics. It also aims at teaching students the method of the bibliographic research.

Course unit content
Two different series of lectures will be provided. Students are required to attend one of the two series.
The first series of lectures will be focused on the research topics of some members of the mathematical unit of the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Computer Sciences.
The second series of lectures, delivered by Prof. M. Groppi, will be devoted to illustrating the main specialized mathematical databases and also
speciaized databases in fields closed to mathematics.

Insight of the local catalog SBP ("Sistema Bibliotecario Parmense"), of the national catalog SBN ("Sistema Bibliotecario Nazionale") and of the catalogs “British Library” and “Library of Congress Online Catalog”.
Mathematical specialized databases.
Some specialized databases in areas of interests close to mathematics.
Some inter-disciplinary specialized databases.
